Zookz Brings Local Sandwiches to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
HMSHost adds Phoenix favorite sandwich shop to Terminal 4
PHOENIX (June 5, 2019) – Zookz award-winning sandwich concept has landed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Known for its unique toasted, round-shaped and sealed artisan sandwiches, Zookz is now serving world travelers its all-day menu of breakfast and lunch sandwiches and salads. Zookz has opened inside the airport’s Terminal 4 in partnership with global restaurateur HMSHost.
Frequently recognized as one of best sandwich shops in the region, and recently highlighted in USA Today as serving the best breakfast sandwich in all of Arizona, Zookz now offers Phoenix airport travelers a variety of made-to-order sandwiches from gourmet creations to more traditional favorites. With their sealed crunchy outer crusts, and their intriguing food combinations tucked neatly inside, Zookz sandwiches are pleasantly portable and effortlessly easy for travelers to enjoy on the go. Each signature round-shaped sandwich is freshly prepared on a patented sandwich press that perfectly captures and seals in Zookz proprietary sauces and unique combinations of flavorful fresh ingredients.
“HMSHost is thrilled to bring Zookz unique sandwich creations into the airport, making for the perfect stop to grab a taste of Phoenix before your flight,” said HMSHost Vice President of Business Development Stephen Douglas. “We’re thankful to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport for partnering with us to continue enhancing the airport dining experience with the most popular local culinary flavors.”
Zookz offers something for all travelers. Some signature items include: the No. 20 which features turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, avocado, and Zookz sweet heat mustard sauce; and the No. 40 with cheddar cheese, black beans, tomatoes, avocado, sliced potatoes, and Zookz creamy picante buttermilk dressing.
Travelers will be delighted to encounter all-day breakfast sandwiches such as the No. 33 featuring two poached eggs, parmesan cheese, feta cheese, fresh spinach, tomatoes, and fresh basil. Those with a sweet tooth can savor the Zookz sandwich packed with Nutella, bananas, peanut butter, and roasted almonds topped with powder sugar. Along with innovative sandwich options, Zookz offers a selection of freshly prepared salads that are just as tasty as the sandwiches.
Founded in Phoenix by Carole Meyer, whose inspiration for Zookz dates back to her childhood in North Africa, where her grandmother’s warm crunchy sandwich creations cooked on a hand-held contraption over an open flame were the family’s ultimate “comfort food.” Decades later, Carole developed the patented commercial cooking device that now enables her to offer the public a variety of the unique, high quality sandwich creations of her youth, blending multiple tastes and textures with the freshest of ingredients complemented by her own home-made sauces and dressings.
From the opening of her first location, Carole has been convinced that Zookz was the perfect airport concept: “Because Zookz sandwiches, including all-day breakfast sandwiches, can be prepared with amazing efficiency and can be easily eaten on board an airplane, I am now able to share my grandmother’s “comfort food” with today’s ever on-the-go air traveler, who wants quality above all, but is unwilling, and often unable, to compromise speed and convenience.”
In addition to the new Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport location, Zookz has two locations in Phoenix that have made several ‘best of’ lists, and her first location was voted best sandwiches in Phoenix Magazine’s Readers Choice poll five consecutive years starting in 2013.
