HMSHost Wins Contract Extension at John Glenn Columbus International Airport
Restaurants with local flair and new pre-security Starbucks to greet travelers
COLUMBUS, OH — Travelers of John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) will soon see some new and exciting dining destinations while voyaging through the airport’s revitalized concourses. That is because global restaurateur HMSHost has been awarded by the Columbus Regional Airport Authority an eight year contract extension valued at $204 million in total revenue, taking the contract term to the end of 2027. HMSHost will recreate five existing restaurants with new brands and will also be adding a new Starbucks to the pre-security area near the existing HMSHost-operated Max & Erma’s.
“HMSHost values strongly our partnership with the Authority and we are very excited to continue working together to serve Columbus travelers,” said HMSHost Vice President of Business Development Kent Vanden Oever. “With the restaurant changes planned we will be able to give travelers in all areas of the airport an opportunity to experience a great sense of place while they dine and visit.”
“The Airport Authority is pleased to be collaborating with HMS Host on these exciting restaurant plans, including the addition of Land-Grant Brewing, another hometown favorite,” said Elaine Roberts, President and CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority which operates John Glenn Columbus International Airport. “We appreciate HMS Host’s investment and their commitment to enhance the customer experience at John Glenn International. We’re pleased to continue our partnership with them.”
Upgraded dining options will include Land-Grant Brewing Company, a new pub in Concourse B that will deliver the same beer garden and local sports fan atmosphere found at the brewery in the East Franklinton neighborhood of Columbus. Land-Grant’s authentic Columbus spirit will be represented by an eight-beer tap system anchored by Land-Grant’s iconic core brews; 1862 Ale Kölsch, Greenskeeper Session I.P.A., Son of a Mudder Brown Ale, and Stiff-Arm I.P.A. These sudsy local beverages will be complemented by a menu developed by HMSHost chefs. Next year the newly renovated Concourse C will be home to a Samuel Adams themed bar called American Craft Tavern that will offer a menu designed specifically for the traveling public; HMSHost’s leading modern sports venue PGA TOUR Grill, the destination for diners with an active lifestyle; and a new Starbucks® store.
The pre-security Starbucks® store and Land-Grant Brewing Company are slated to open later this year, while the rest of the new restaurant openings will occur between January 2017 and December 2018. The existing restaurant brands that are being replaced will continue to operate until construction begins on each one.
